Ok to start this off, for people who have seen a  succesfully 1080p .mp4 to work with 360 list them please, would be a great help. so  List PROPER file names release group ect.

Cool. When we hit a new page on the thread I'll start compiling them and see if there's anything the non-working ones have in common. I think the way GOTsent deals with these is to transcode down to MPEG2, but I'd rather not do that if it's possible to adjust the profile.

and that was the initial idea if these 1080p copies work then you could work your magic and see whats the differnce between these and the other 1080p that dont work.

That said, everyone, please use common sense here and don't admit to doing anything you wouldn't tell an officer of the law. There *are* legitimate video files in MKV containers available, and this program doesn't (and can't) distinguish between what might be a copyright violation and what isn't.

I will, of course, protect the identity of any poster here to the best of my ability should a challenge arise.

Thats totaly fine, and a very smart thing to do. i have refraised the way i wrote the post, advised others do so aswell    "dont do's"  example: i have downloaded, tried. ect just be the middel man. Do's Example: seen this work, friend ect.

i gave it another go at changing the profile although i dropped it to level 4.0. anyways the point is  mkvmerge seem to be putting out .mka files rather than .mkv and there is no option to chose wich u want. is it just a simple matter of changing the file exstention to .mkv after merged

I can definitely tell right away that the 1080p Planet Earth file won't work:

The official Xbox 360 specifications indicate the officially supported data rate is less than 10Mbps:

Video Bitrate: 10 Mbps with resolutions of 1920 x 1080 at 30fps. See question number 11 for more information.

So it's slightly slower than 30fps (looks like native 1080p24) but the bit rate is too high for the Xbox decoder to deal with. There's no hard cap on bitrate (this is why it plays, but is blocky. Normally you'd just get the "cannot play file" message.)

If you're getting a .mka file, it likely means that only the audio track is being output...

I'm trying to play the planet earth, that actually someone else in this thread mentioned.  I'm wondering though, if i convert it through GOTsent, how much video quality gets lost?  forgive me, but i don't know much about video transcoding and such, does it stay as an hd file?  does it stay the same resolution? what is it after conversion..still 1080p? 1080i? 720p?

Thanks, sorry for the noob question, but I really don't know where else to ask

In theory if the file conversion completes successfully, there is no video loss at all using either XenonMKV or GOTsent. XenonMKV in particular does not modify the original video stream.

However, the Xbox 360 cannot handle files with a bitrate of over 12MBit of data in a single second, and instead fragments the entire file. The result is essentially unwatchable. That's what people in this thread are reporting, and there is no known fix other than to transcode the file to a lower bitrate.

1080p files are most likely to suffer from this problem. I've never had issues with 720p content myself, so that's generally what I stick to.

Ah, i downloaded the Matrix trilogy pack before seeing this and it does indeed come up pixelated and blocky. 
I looked at the bitrate on all of these and they are all around 7500kbits -8000 kbits  which seems like it would be in the xbox360 threshold?

I really would like to watch these movies on the 360, how would i go about getting them to work?
